Are serial numbers tied to the device or the computer?

From IOXpertsWiki

Tied to Device or Computer

IOXperts serial numbers are associated with the device whenever possible. When the serial number is associated with the device, you may use the driver on any computer and unlock it using the same serial number. This is possible when the device has an internal hardware specific serial number which is readable by our driver.

IOXperts serial numbers for FireWire devices and wireless cards have internal serial numbers, making the IOXperts serial number for these types of devices portable. In the case of wireless cards, the device 'serial number' is the MAC address of the card.

USB devices such as WebCams vary as to whether they have a unique serial number, so the IOXperts serial number is sometimes portable and sometimes not.

IOXperts Unique ID

The IOXperts Unique ID is a number which uniquely identifies a device. It is used as the input for the IOXperts serial number algorithm. When a device has an internal serial number, the IOXperts unique ID contains that serial number. When it doesn't, the unique ID contains the MAC address of the primary ethernet adapter in the computer. This ties the serial number to the computer.

Moving a device to a different computer

If the IOXperts unique ID and serial number for your device are tied to the device itself, you may use the serial number to unlock an IOXperts driver on any computer you install it on. Simply enter it into the registration dialog.

If they are tied to the computer, you must request a new serial number from IOXperts when you want to use the device on another computer. Use this form to request a new serial number from IOXperts.
