iChat and USB WebCams

Apple has explicitly disabled the use of USB WebCams in iChat. This is a purely a business decision on their part rather than a technical issue. You can re-enable USB WebCams by installing iChatUSBCam.

There is nothing IOXperts can do in its drivers to work around this issue.

You can file a bug report with Apple about this issue or sign this petition if you like.

iSight: Why does Webcam 1.1 ask me to register my iSight?

This was an oversight in version 1.1. Our driver creates a digitizer for each camera it supports, and most video applications will choose the IOXperts iSight driver over the Apple iSight driver by default.

If you bought the IOXperts driver to support another camera and have an iSight attached to your computer as well, we'll gladly generate you a serial number for your iSight. Just file a serial number request with the unique ID of your iSight.

Newer versions of the Webcam driver have a mechanism for disabling support for the iSight or any other camera you choose, so you won't need to purchase a license for it. We'll announce this when it goes final.

New Logitech Cameras

IOXperts is in the process of a number of new Logitech USB WebCams. These include the

  • QuickCam Orbit MP
  • QuickCam Fusion
  • QuickCam for Notebooks Pro
  • QuickCam Pro 5000

See IOXperts Betas to get information information on downloading and using our beta driver with these Logitech Cameras.

Philips SPC900NC

This camera is supported in versions 1.1.2a6 of our webcam driver and later.

See IOXperts Betas to get information information on downloading and using our beta driver with the this camera.

Intel Macs

IOXperts is in the process of updating our drivers to run natively on the new Intel macs.

Our drivers should work with PowerPC only apps on Intel Macs but we have not done extensive testing. If you try this and have a problem please file a support request with us.

Our existing drivers (1.1 and prior) will not work with applications built to run natively on Intel.

Our current (4 June 2006) betas will work, but not with all the cameras we currently support. Please read the release notes before installing one of our new betas.

See IOXperts Betas to get information information on downloading and using beta versions of our video drivers.
